To me the beach is one of the most peaceful places to be. It’s a place of constant movement; tides moving in and out, breezes blowing, and in the water the seaweed and kelp flow with the waves. This mandala started as a doodling; it’s when it was completed that it reminded me of the peaceful movement of kelp beneath the ocean surface.

Week 31: Falcon
This was one of many mandalas created after my trip to Egypt with my husband in 1999. This one was inspired by King Tut’s falcon amulet. The design reminds me of the rising phoenix, a transformation from out of the ashes.
Week 30: Council of Twelve
“Council of Twelve” “Whenever two or more are gathered as one, the possibilities are endless.” I created two full-color versions … More
Week 27: Shine On
The overall look of this mandala reminds me of a star portal, a stargate, that is fully open, allowing us a view of a world with two suns. The vertical square tube feels like a place where you could jump into, like jumping into a worm hole.
Week 25: True Heart
“True Heart” “I love, honor, and respect all that I am” I created one full-color version using color pencils: This … More
Week 24: Flare
“Flare” “In my stillness, comes my peace and joy” I created one full-color version using markers: While meditating and thinking … More
Week 21: Ahna
“Ahna” “There is peace in knowing that you are always there for me” For this mandala design, I created three … More
Week 19: Tut
This mandala was inspired by the decorative lid of a large alabaster box belonging to King Tut. I loved the multiple rows of detailed patterns which all lent itself even better in a circular mandala form.
Week 18: Essence of Being
This design started out as a doodle and built upon itself. As I draw designs like this one, I start in the middle and draw out a simple idea; then I look at it and it just looks like something else needs to be added and each ring around builds on the previous one until I reach the 12 inch diameter edge.
Week 17: Bowling for Sunshine
While taking a studio colored pencil class, where each of us works on our own projects with guidance and evaluation from the instructor and fellow class mates, I decided to play with watercolor pencils. This was my second painting from that experimentation.
