“Bowling for Sunshine”
“Bright is my spirit, shining my light over all that I am.”
For this mandala design, I created one full-color version using watercolor pencils

While taking a color pencil class, where each of us works on our own projects with guidance and tutelage from the instructor and fellow class mates, I decided to play with watercolor pencils. This mandala was my second painting from that experimentation.
I named it “Bowling for Sunshine” because when I looked at the finished painting, the sun appeared separate from its rays. The innermost set of rays reminded me of bowling pins and the sun a bowling bowl about to knock them down. From there the name just became obvious.
The Message
“Bowling for Sunshine” encourages us to drop our defenses, drop our false personas, drop our self delusions and let our inner light shine for all the world see. Marianne Williamson states it best with this quote from her book “A Return to Love.”
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Odetta’s video provides a reading of Marianne’s words and then goes into an amazingly heart-felt version of “This Little Light of Mine”…which best embodies the spirit of the “Bowling for Sunshine” Mandala.
For a livelier version, here’s Bruce Springstein’s take on it…lot’s of fun!
The November 2013 Mandala of the Month also promotes this same theme with the “Putting Ourselves Out There” post.
The time has come to: Let it shine! Let it shine! Let it shine!
