Download Mandala of the Week #3
I created this design based on a couple of delightful cakes I spotted while researching this week’s MotD theme. I love how it gives the appearance of a curved surface. Already I see a multitude of ways to color/paint this. How about you?
From FoodTimeline.org:
According to the food historians, the precursors of modern cakes (round ones with icing) were first baked in Europe sometime in the mid-17th century. This is due primarily to advances in technology … and ingredient availability… . At that time cake hoops … were popular. They could be made of metal, wood or paper. … The first icing were usually a boiled composition of the finest available sugar, egg whites and [sometimes] flavorings. This icing was poured on the cake. The cake was then returned to the oven for a while. When removed the icing cooled quickly to form a hard, glossy [ice-like] covering.
This Week…
The great thing about cake is it doesn’t feel like work. You forget about work. Kids, adults, they all get the same look in their eye when they’re decorating cakes… That’s the magic right there. ~ Duff Goldman, Pastry Chef & TV Personality
