Message

“I Choose to Open New Eyes”

I’m reminded of the adage: “What you see, is what you get.” In the language of A Course in Miracles, it might translate as: What you think, is what you get… to see.

How we think—and on which thoughts we choose to focus—determines how we see the world. Our thoughts act like filters, a lens we look through before anything ever reaches our awareness. We don’t see first and then think about it. We think first… and then create that vision.

For example, if we believe that people, in general, are mean, that belief becomes the filter through which we view everything. Because of that, all we seem to encounter are mean people. And from that assumption, we interact—guarded, defensive, braced for impact; the antithesis of who we truly are.

The thing is, those people may or may not actually be mean. In truth, they’re neutral. But once the ego-mind assigns meaning, neutrality doesn’t stand a chance. Because we think they are mean, they are mean—at least in the world our mind has made.

This week, through lessons 15–21, we’re invited to loosen our grip on these filters just enough to let a little light seep in. Not to force ourselves into pollyanna-ish optimism, but to open—just a crack—to the possibility that vision could be different. And maybe, if we’re feeling especially brave, we could want to see differently.

Peace & Blessings,
