Pilgrimage of Healing and Consciousness
For 2025, we’re embarking on a 52-week pilgrimage of inward healing, growth, and self-discovery…and ultimately, peace…regardless of whether the healing is related to addiction, grief, or any other challenge we seek to overcome.
Mile 41 of our pilgrimage we encouraged to assess our handling of storms: the kind that turn into arguments, resentments, fear, worry, anxiety, and the like. Oh, and these storms aren’t just coming at us from external circumstances, they can also come from internal storms that we create via our thoughts and emotions.
Along with assessing these storms, we’re also highly encouraged to create systems or protocols to help us return to neutral so that we can best manage potential storms with ease and grace. Tall order and yet for our own peace of mind, a must.
Some ideas include: a hot shower, deep breathing, walking away from it, listening to soothing music, some form of physical activity (dancing, lifting weights, singing karaoke, brisk walking), find a safe place to scream, find a quiet place to regroup, hug a loved one/friend/pet, talk with a loved one/friend/pet/therapist, and so on.
To help us determine our “system”, we can look at our past storms to gain insight as to what worked and what didn’t. One thing that doesn’t work for me is being told to “calm down”. Anyone else ? What does work for me is mindfulness…being self aware enough to notice that I’m actually in a storm—external or internal. Once that awareness is there, then I can consciously decide what’s the next best step to take. Usually, it’s a walk and/or deep breathing, then asking my inner self what it wants in that moment.
Our challenge becomes understanding how best to handle the storms we find ourselves in and maybe even more importantly, getting so good at it that our storms are more like passing clouds blocking the sun just enough to catch our attention so we can implement our system and maintain our peace.
How about you ? How well do you weather your “storms”—internally as well as externally ? Do you have a system in place to help you become the calm eye of the storm when they arrive ? How about a system to recognize potential storms on the horizon ?

About the 2025 Mandalas of the Week
Each week I will create a new mandala design to color, along with my coloring of it, and a weekly message and prompt for us to continue on our quest throughout the year. All of which is inspired by Melody Beattie’s book entitled “52 Weeks of Consciousness Contact”.
I will be breaking down each week’s topic into daily insights and images (inspired by Melody’s book) on my blog site: MandalaoftheDay.com where I’ll be creating/building one giant mandala (48”x48”), one puzzle piece of it each day.
