A Journey Into Joy
Step 2 — Week 3: The Call
Step 2 is about noticing “the call” to change, for change, or about change. With Step 1 we looked at where we are currently, what’s our starting point on this journey. Essentially we’re looking for something that “shakes up” the current situation, either from something externally or from something deep within.
With this step, it’s time to face the beginnings of change in some area (or areas) of our lives (work, health, relationships, personal, leisure, play, and so on). For me I plan to continue with the areas covered in the weeks of Step 1.

Here’s my journal entry for step 2–week 3: The Mandala Lady
”The Mandala Lady” (TML) represents every aspect of my mandala art business…from being an artist, an intuitive reader, a mandala designer for coloring…to actually running the business side of TML.
When it comes to the artistic/intuitive/creative side of TML, here’s what’s shaking things up and calling me into action:
- feeling the need to figure out what direction to follow with what mandala art to create
- feeling called to do more intuitive readings, incorporating the use of my new oracle decks as well as creating mandala art as part of the readings
- feeling the pull to create at least one or more coloring books that also incorporate either brand new designs, existing designs, a meditation focus, and/or a journal component to them
When it comes to the business/administrative side of TML, here’s what’s shaking things up and calling me into action:
- bring my website up-to-date…maybe even a completely new design
- come up with a marketing/business plan for my mandala art, meditation stones, and intuitive readings
- implement said plan(s)
Essentially I’m feeling pushed to get my sh#t together.
Since about 2018, I’ve been feeling lost and confused about what I do when it comes to TML. In 2023 I started feeling the push to put myself out there more. For the month of October I created a store window display of all of my Mandalas of the Day from 2022 along with some other mandalas. It felt like a jump start…to get the ball rolling…and get more exposure (at least locally).
And then I started a couple of monthly mandala zoom sessions last month which put me out there ever more. For now it feels a bit rough around the edges. As I do more of them, I’m hoping to make them a bit more polished and also get a better feel for what works and what needs improving.
The thing is, when it comes to TML, I feel like I’m just floating in this vast ocean, with no land in sight, trying to figure out which direction to take to find land. It’s a bit overwhelming and yet it feels good to put this all down in writing.
That’s it for now,
Maureen

ABOUT “A JOURNEY INTO JOY”
With all the anxiety and stress in the world right now, focusing on joy may seem a bit counterintuitive. Mais contraire mes amis. We actually need more joy in our lives…now more than ever. And it starts within each of us. It’s been my experience that when in that higher vibrational state of joy, it helps raise the vibration of those around us as well.
Brené Brown defines joy as “an intense feeling of deep spiritual connection, pleasure, and appreciation”. Of late, I mostly experience only moments of happiness and on a rare occasion, joy…thus my desire to journey into joy.
My quest throughout this year is to explore, experience, and express this state in a variety of ways, including following a variation of the hero’s journey, as professed by Jospeh Campbell.
Care to join me? Here’s how…
MandalaoftheMonth.com: On the first of the month, I’ll create and post a mandala for coloring. Each month we’ll take another step along the “journey into joy” by following a modified version Joseph Campbell’s a hero’s journey. Included in each step will be a description of the step and prompts for coloring and/or journaling for the month. You’re welcome to color them as well…they’re free to download.
MandalaoftheWeek.com: Each Monday I’ll be posting my coloring of that month’s Mandala of the Month, which will produce 4-5 colorings of that design. With each one, I intend to dig deeper into the message of that month’s mandala. You’re welcome to color along as well.
